Acoustic Guitar Project Reunion – 3/10

Acoustic Guitar Project

Join us for an Acoustic Guitar Project Reunion featuring Phil Grajko, Ashley Cox, and Jeffrey Pepper Rodgers.

Since 2014, many of Central New York’s best songwriters have taken on the challenge of the international Acoustic Guitar Project—each writing and recording a song in a week on the same guitar.

To date, 45 songs have been written on the Syracuse project guitar, and the annual Acoustic Guitar Project concert (hosted by Syracuse’s Folkus Project) has become a treasured celebration of homegrown original music.

In this special show, three alumni of the Syracuse Acoustic Guitar Project reunite to perform their project songs on the project guitar, as well as other original songs. Ashley Cox, who wrote a song for the project’s first year, and Phil Grajko, who joined the tradition in 2019, perform along with project curator Jeffrey Pepper Rodgers.

The Acoustic Guitar Project Reunion is a one-of-a-kind show that provides an intimate look at not only some of the area’s best songwriting but the inspirations and stories behind it.

More about the performers:

Singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Phil Grajko was born and raised in upstate New York. He picked up a guitar at age ten and has never looked back. Since that time he’s written hundreds of songs and played in dozens of bands of all styles, including the roots/soul/reggae band Root Shock. But above all, he’s remained true to his first love.

Award-winning singer/songwriter Ashley Cox has been performing for over two decades. Three-time Best of Syracuse vocalist, and one half of Sammy Award winning alt-rock band Professional Victims, Cox continues to dabble in a variety of musical genres including pop, jazz, and indie rock. There is no category that she fits neatly into, as she prefers blazing her own trail.

Jeffrey Pepper Rodgers has combined his twin passions for words and music into a multifaceted career as a musician, author, and teacher. A grand prize winner of the John Lennon Songwriting Contest and a Sammy Award winner for Best Americana, he plays kinetic folk-rock, combining vivid imagery and storytelling with masterful band-in-a-box guitar playing.
